Take the Pledge to Stop Global Warming!
Here’s How It works!
1. DECIDE that you want to help stop global warming. (There are many things that kids can do to help!)
2. PICK one thing to pledge to do from the back of this page.
3. PICK out a favorite memory object to remind you of your love and respect for the earth: a beautiful shell, a piece of driftwood, a special stone, a soft feather, or a picture of you in your favorite outdoor place, having fun with your friends or sitting quietly observing nature’s beauty.
4. Now HOLD your memory object and recite this pledge; I pledge to be the change I want to see in the world. I pledge to (__________________).
5. SHARE your pledge with a friend!
6. INVITE them to take the pledge!
7. Last Step. PLACE your memory object by your bed to give you “green” dreams.
8. ENJOY Earth Day EVERYDAY!
Have a pledge picture to share? Bring it in for the bulletin board on the 4th floor! (middle staircase)
Here Are Some Things Kids Can Do To Help Stop
Global Warming!
- Walk or bike to school.
- Take the train instead of the car.
- Cold? Wear more clothes.
- Hot? Use a fan, not AC.
- Plant a garden (in or out) or join a community garden.
- Eat fresh locally grown food.
- Carry a reusable, washable bag for shopping or carryout.
- Avoid using plastic bags.
- Recycle all plastic bags at local stores. Never throw them out.
- Recycle old plastic toys.
- Say NO to plastic knives, forks and spoons. Carry a washable SPORK! (Plastic and Styrofoam NEVER biodegrade and are made from fossil fuels. Use only when necessary).
- Buy a reusable lunchbox, with reusable containers.
- Compost food waste. This will help you avoid plastic bag use and reduce methane, a strong greenhouse gas.
- Save leftover school fruit for a snack later.
- Carry a stainless steel H2O bottle and AVOID buying bottled water. (NYC water is pristine. Research this, and you’ll NEVER drink bottled water again!)
- Enjoy the water fountains.
- Conserve water.
- Avoid buying things that CANNOT be recycled.
- RECYCLE anything that CAN be recycled like Aluminum foil, cans and bottles.
- If you are not sure where to put your recyclables, ask an adult.
- Power Strips save $. Ask Mom or Dad to buy them.
- Google Solar Energy! Share what you learned!!!
- Save up for a Pedal Power indoor bike that converts your energy into electricity!
Visit the Bulletin Board in the lunchroom to get more info on all these solutions and REMEMBER this; The LESS FOSSIL FUELS we all use, the less the planet HEATS UP! Thanks for being part of the SOLUTION!
