Math- Word problem of the day.
Monday- The management of Purity Diner has requested that Students create Thank You Cards for the Staff of Methodist Hospital. The cards will hang on display on the windows of the restaurant. It would be the community's way of thanking the staff of Methodist for their hard work in dealing with this deadly virus. You can mail your card to Purity Diner at the address below.
1/2 cup oil
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups sesame seeds
4 cups sunflower seeds
7 cups rolled oats
5 cups walnuts
Heat the honey, oil and vanilla. Gradually add all the oats and mix well.
PARENTAL HELP NEEDED FOR NEXT STEP
In a large pan toast this mixture stirring it every 5- 10 minutes once it has begun to brown.
DON'T LET IT GET TOO BROWN.
Cool
Add any dried fruit you like at this point.
Store in jars and enjoy!

When the pandemic is over, you decide you want to make make them cookies!! Let's estimate that there are 300 staff members working at Methodist Hospital. Every staff member will receive a packet of 4 yummy chocolate macaroon. How much will you need of each ingredient to make all the cookies?

David wants to make this granola, but he only has 1 cup of walnuts. How much will he need of each ingredient for this size batch?
Maple Nut Granola
This recipe makes about 18 cups
3/4 cup honey
! cup maple syrup
2 TABLESPOONS Vanilla1/2 cup oil
1 teaspoon salt

My favorite cookies are chocolate macaroons. [They are gluten free in case you care. :) ]
Here’s the recipe
Chocolate Macaroons
2 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup shredded coconut
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (melted and cooled)
Beat eggs white till stiff.
Add salt.
Add sugar.
Beat egg whites again until they peak.
Add almond extract.
Fold in coconut.
Add chocolate and stir.
Bake at 9 minutes on convection at 325 degrees. Keep an eye.
This makes 20 cookies
Monday- Grandma and Grandpa are quarantined for the next month. You wanted to show then you care so you made them some cookies. If you triple the recipe how much will you need of each ingredient?
Tuesday- Hanna only has one egg. How can she make this recipe with only one egg?

Wednesday and Thursday- Cyrus wants to make cookies for his class and Mr. Magliano's class. Mr. Mag has 30 students and Ms. Cheryl will want to try one too, to see if it's up to snuff! How many batches will you need to make AND how much of each ingredient will you need. Don't leave anyone out! If you have any left over you can share them with your families.

Tuesday. Tuesday- Calder had 3/4 pint of water in his glass. He drank 1/3 pint of water from his glass. Mia had 5/8 pint of water in her glass. She drank 1/4th of it. Write an expression that can be used to find the total amount of water left in Calder and Mia's glass. How much water is left in both glasses? ( Be careful! This is trickier than it looks!)
